How does Backerkit work?

Backerkit is a tool that allows you to upgrade your existing pledge by offering add-ons. For example; Your original pledge is a single Compact knife set and you want to upgrade to a set with the knife block. With Backerkit you will be able to order a Knife block and add it to your existing pledge (Compact knife set). It is not possible to adjust your original pledge.

We are overwhelmed by your support and we would like to give something back to you by offering free shipping on the Tony Santoku and William Paring knife. This will enable you to create your own set without additional shipping costs. A little gift from us!

Are the knives dishwasher safe?

Although the stainless steel is dishwasher safe, we strongly recommend cleaning your knife by hand. The banging around that happens in the dishwasher can damage the cutting edge of your knife.

Are the knives exactly balanced in the middle?

No - for a good reason: input from chefs. A knife has to tilt forward, towards the area where the knife cuts the food, for an optimal cutting experience.

We’re familiar with big brands that boast that their knife is perfectly balanced in the middle. We’re convinced this is nothing but a marketing ploy.

Q: Can I just add an amount to the pledge and get more knives?

It is not possible to pre-order more knives by adding an amount to your pledge. You can add more knives to your pledge via a pledge manager after the campaign.

How do you ensure lifetime sharpness for the chef’s knife?

Right from the beginning, it was our goal to extend the maximum lifespan of a chef’s knife. To realize this, we took bold design decisions and pushed the boundaries of manufacturing possibilities beyond premium standards.

We’ve made the blade bigger to extend the life cycle of the cutting edge, as the blade gets a fraction smaller after each sharpening process.

Each Wigbold is paired with a matching sharpening stone with code 1000/6000, to maintain your Wigbold’s cutting edge.

Are you unable to re-sharpen your knife? Then our pirate code gets you off the hook: send your Wigbold chef’s knife to our Crowd Cookware’s crow’s nest and we’ll return it razor-sharp for free.

Are the handles hollow or solid?

The handle is hollow casted. The weight of a knife is one of its most important aspects. To achieve the perfect weight, we’ve tested different knives for months. We discovered that the weight of each knife is ideal and Michelin star chefs have confirmed this. Hollow casting turned out to be the best technique to achieve the perfect weight.

(Where) can I buy your knives?

Soon! We are now in a phase that Kickstarter is used for: scaling up ideas once they are brought to life with the help of thousands of backers worldwide.

The success we’ve created together is obviously noticed in the industry: since a couple of months we are looking into to the possibilities retail can offer.

Of course you’ll be one of the first to know if the knives become available. For now, we would love to thank every backer for becoming part of the Crowd Cookware community and getting us to this point.

Did you pay backers for participating in your project video and on the project page?

Definitely no. After almost a 1.000 backers mentioned that they wanted to test a prototype for us, we selected a few of them to test the limited available knives. To thank them for the huge amount of time they spent on testing the knives and making videos of the testing, and their permission for using all the material on our project page, we decided that they can keep the prototypes they tested. That’s all the payment we did.

This is how we create chef-grade cookware together.

Aye!

BackerKit FAQ

What is BackerKit?

BackerKit is a service that crowdfunded project creators use to keep track of hundreds to tens of thousands of backers—from shipping details, pledge levels, preferences and quantities, whether they have paid or had their card declined, special notes, and everything in between!

The BackerKit software and support team is independent from the campaign’s project team—BackerKit does not handle the actual reward shipping. For more information about the preparation or delivery status of your rewards, please check the project's updates page.

How does BackerKit work?

After the campaign ends, the project creator will send you an email with a unique link to your survey. You can check out a walkthrough of the process here.

I never received my invitation. How do I complete the survey?

The most common reasons for not receiving a survey email is that you may be checking an email inbox different from the email address you used to sign up with Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account, or it may be caught in your spam filter.

Confirm that the email address you are searching matches the email address tied to your Kickstarter, Indiegogo, or Tilt Pro account. If that doesn’t work, then try checking your spam, junk or promotions folders. You can also search for "backerkit” in your inbox.

To resend the survey to yourself, visit the project page and input the email address associated with your Kickstarter, Indiegogo or Tilt Pro account.

How do I update my shipping address?

BackerKit allows you to update your shipping address until the shipping addresses are locked by the project creator. To update your address, go back to your BackerKit survey by inputting your email here.

When will my order be shipped, charged or locked?

That is handled directly by the project creator. BackerKit functions independently of the project itself, so we do not have control of their physical shipping timeline. If you want to check on the project’s status, we recommend reading over the project's updates page.

I completed the survey, but haven't received my rewards yet. When will they arrive?

As BackerKit does not actually handle any rewards or shipping, the best way to stay updated on the shipping timeline would be to check out the project's updates page.
